We have many opportunities to strengthen our core muscles, including the love handles along the side of our trunk, while we are playing with our kids. I realized as I was sitting sideways that this was a great time to strengthen my love handles. It’s so easy to collapse the ribcage and let it droop when sitting to the side as shown below. Notice how my shoulder is hiked up and my head is tilted to the right as well and my elbow is bent backwards. This would really wear on my shoulder and neck.
In the picture below, I have shifted my weight off of my left hip, pulled my ribcage to a neutral position and my whole body is aligned and supported. This is much better on my body as a whole and my hand won’t go numb from the pressure on my shoulder joint. Moral of the story, sit up straight. ( :
