Satisfied Clients Say ...

"My name is Helge Buflod and I train horses for a living. That puts me in the saddle 40+ hours a week. Over time, my knees have started to “wear out” and at one point a couple years ago, it became difficult to bend my leg in the stirrup to mount horses, or even walk. I was in constant pain. I went to an orthopedic surgeon and was diagnosed as being bow legged, which had caused my meniscus to wear thin, and was close to being bone on bone. He suggested breaking my legs at my thighs, straightening me out in a cast and taking me off my feet, and my job, for several months. I ran like hell out of there.

Jocelyn Metzger of Sunshine Therapeutics was a client of mine. She noticed my limping and suggested she could help. I’m not into “new age” healing, but when Jocelyn explained the science of myo fascia release and how your muscles and your body’s system works, it made sense. From the very first treatment I felt better. She started to “realign” my muscles, which helped realign my bones. Today, I walk straighter, am not in pain, and continue to ride horses. I give Jocelyn full credit and recommend her to anyone suffering.

Whether it’s my son being sore after a wrestling match, my daughter recovering from an auto accident, my aging father whose back bothers him, or my wife’s neck after a trail ride, my family turns to Jocelyn."

Myofascial Release (MFR) for Athletes

The Runner

Fascial restrictions can drastically interfere with your athletic performance and increase your risk for injury. As the athlete prepares for an event, it is important to align the body to place the muscles at their maximum mechanical advantage. If you train and perform with continual compensation in your technique and wearing braces for support, the body will only weaken further in the overstressed or braced areas. Pain is the bodies way of informing us that something is not correct and needs to be fixed, not covered up with braces and medication.

The Horseback Rider

For the horseback rider, keeping your body aligned is essential to communicating with your horse effectively. Your horse is highly sensitive to the position of your pelvis. If you are always shifted to the right due to fascial restrictions, your horse will always feel more pressure on the right side of it’s back and use this as a signal to move right. Your body’s rotation, torqued areas, and tension will also wear on a horse causing the horse pain and discomfort. Our horses have a highly advanced intuitive sense to feel our movements and emotions. You need to be as intuitive to your horse as they are to you. What you bring to the barn, you pass on to the animals. Having clarity of mind and synergy of the body strengthens the union and efficacy of communication with your horse. Imagine your horse listening and responding to your subtle movements effortlessly. That is developing a partnership with your horse achieved by expanding your inner awareness, releasing your fears, and refining your equilibrium. Myofascial release will guide you to this point.

MFR focuses on balancing the body beginning with the pelvis. The pelvis is the base of the triangle with your cranial region, primarily the occiput, as the peak of the triangle. These areas must be aligned to achieve balanced riding and decrease pain/discomfort from fascial restrictions caused by cumulative or blunt trauma. After balancing the pelvis, we listen and feel what the body needs to release the tissue memory of previous falls, kicks, bucks, and injuries that have emotionally and physically scared you preventing you from riding at your maximum ability. This is how you achieve permanent change. Look, listen, feel, then sitting deep in your saddle and move with your horse in harmony.
